WILD INITIATIVES
The Awasi Foundation is dedicated to safeguarding Patagonia's delicate ecosystems, working hand in hand with local communities to promote environmental stewardship and cultural preservation.
The Awasi Patagonia Conservation Project focuses on protecting wildlife in the Torres del Paine National Park area. The park serves as a sanctuary for native species such as pumas, condors, and guanacos. However, animals leaving the park face various threats. To address this, Awasi Patagonia created a natural corridor on its grounds, expanding protected areas and allowing wildlife to roam freely. This initiative has restored habitats for native species, resulting in a significant increase in the puma population, with 9 to 12 individuals now inhabiting previously barren areas. Awasi guides actively monitor puma populations and deter hunters to ensure their safety. Additionally, the project aims to collect valuable data on the behavioral patterns of these species, contributing to conservation efforts in the region.
