While Kennebunkport could be considered a year-round destination, the best time to visit is during warmer weather months from June to October. In the summer, guests love to visit nearby beaches to surf, sail, kayak, etc. Local companies offer whale watching and lobster tours on the Kennebunk River and out onto the Atlantic Ocean along the coastline of the Kennebunks. Like all New England towns, fall foliage is also a big draw. Peak foliage in Kennebunkport typically happens mid-October.
However, it's also worth noting, Kennebunkport is famous for its annual Christmas Prelude event and was voted the #2 Christmas Town in America by HGTV. The 11-day event is reminiscent of a Hallmark movie with tree lightings, Santa arriving by lobster boat, caroling at the Franciscan Monastery, a beautiful fireworks display, a lively street festival, and more.
