Segera is a one-of-a-kind retreat in the heart of Laikipia, created by conservationist Jochen Zeitz in order to provide the most authentic and luxurious safari experience. Surrounded by true Kenyan wilderness with the majestic Mount Kenya to the east and Great Rift Valley to the west, this is a place where the most celebrated wildlife species roam free.
Choose one of six villas, complete with private decks and panoramic views of African savannah or the botanical Sculpture Garden. The signature villa is the two-bedroom Segera House, featuring three indoor lounge areas; a private garden and a plunge pool. Villa Segera is a perfect luxury option, complete with private dining areas and a large salt-water swimming pool.
A not-to-be-missed experience is a night at the Nay Palad Bird Nest - a 360 degree birds-eye-view treehouse, built alongside the river. Enjoy an open-air bed lit up with lanterns, an unforgettable sunset, and fall asleep under the star-studded African sky.
Segera is close to all of the amazing sights and landscapes Kenya has to offer - Laikipia Highlands, Aberdare Mountain Range, Mount Kenya, the Rift Valley and the Great Lakes. See the savannah grasslands, rivers and waterfalls from above with a helicopter excursion. Do a private safari tour, where you may see elephants and buffalo, lions, leopards and cheetahs, antelopes and zebras, and giraffe, among many others.
Discover Mount Kenya's glacial valleys and majestic peaks. See the off-the-beaten path Suguta Valley, known as one of the places where mankind began. Visit the world’s largest permanent desert Lake Turkana - with its otherworldly volcanic beaches and lava flows; and some of the most ancient fossil finds. Or, the beautiful Lake Bogoria, known for its large flamingo population.
Fans of "Out of Africa" will be pleased to know that they can experience a ride on the original G-AAMY plane used in the film, purchased and updated by Segera's owner in 2013.
Segera practices sustainability by providing wildlife and habitat management for the surrounding Ewaso ecosystem and supports the wellbeing of local communities.
Never eating in the same place twice. Herbs and vegetables from Segera's own garden. Honey and chutneys made on the premises. Trout from the nearby river.
Take a 35 minute flight from Nairobi to Nanyuki, followed by a 2 hour transfer to Segera.
From conservation efforts to community engagement, Segera is committed to minimizing its environmental footprint while maximizing positive impact. The retreat employs renewable energy sources, implements water conservation measures, and practices responsible waste management. Additionally, Segera actively supports local communities through education, healthcare, and economic empowerment initiatives, ensuring that sustainability extends beyond the resort grounds and into the surrounding region.
